Green Space aims to provide a directory of environmentally friendly/preferable products and services that are available in South Africa. New products and services are added to the different categories on an on-going basis. 

While all the products and services listed on this website have environmentally friendly features and contribute in some way to the protection/conservation of our country's natural resources, they are not all equally ‘green’. With the exception of organically grown products, there is currently no third-party system in South Africa for the verification of green marketing claims and consumers have to rely on the information provided by manufacturers.

Some of the questions asked when deciding whether or not to include a product or service include:
* Source of materials used to make the product? Locally sourced, sustainably grown and recycled content is preferred.
* Where was the product made? Products made outside South Africa are only included if there is no viable alternative here.
* Can the product and its packaging be reused or recycled after use?
* What are the benefits of the product for all forms of life and life-sustaining systems on the planet.
* Potentially negative environmental impacts?
* Validity of claims - does the manufacturer provide concrete information to substantiate envirommental claims?
